Rural Welfare Project

Our Prestigious Permanent Project

Sunday the 17th of February, 2013 will be proudly remembered by the members of the Lions Club of Mumbai Carter Road as the day they fuelled kitchen fires and uplifted the spirit of 135 elders of Baba Bhaskar Pawar Vrudhashram, Sakwar Village, Virar.

It was the day the Bio Gas Plant donated by Babla Family was formally handed over to the Vrudhashram by the Past International Director Lion Shyam Malpani.

Lion Jayubhai Babla and Lion Ajay Babla from the Babla Family were present on the occasion and so was the presence of grateful residents and the ever enthusiastic and always ready to serve Lions of Lions Club of Mumbai Carter Road.

The cost of the Project was Rs. 6,08,838.00 and the major donation has come from Kanubhai Babla and the Babla Family.

Our New Member Lion Tushar Thakkar has pledged to give 40 cows and to build a shed for the Cattle. He has also promised to give fodder to the cattle for his lifetime.

The bio-gas plant was erected by appropriate Rural Technology Institute (ARTI) Pune.

Their will be 135 direct beneficiary i.e. inmates of the Baba Bhaskar Vrudhashram. Benefit will also go to the staff and Management personal who stay at the Ashram. Total beneficiary 200. As of now after the installation and the commissioning of Gobar Gas Plant the ashram is saving one gas cylinder everyday. The plant is Zero Carbon Emission.

The handing ceremony was followed by a Sangeet Sandhya which evoked much joy among inmates. All the senior citizens aged between 60-90 years danced and sang yester year songs with our Lions members. Gift hampers and games were also presented to them.

Pawar baba’s son Amar Pawar, custodian of the Ashram remarked that he had seen tears of sorrow many times before in eyes of the inmates but never before in 23 years he had seen so many elderly faces lit up with Smile, Laughter and Tears of joy.

Every one present at the handing over ceremony felt that we should endeavor to make this Sangeet Sandhya at the Ashram an annual event. So it be.
